At the frontier of bringing renewable energy to emerging markets

About us

“A for-profit company with a non-profit’s soul”

Gigawatt Global Coöperatief U.A. is a multinational renewable energy company focused on the development and management of utility-scale solar fields in emerging markets.

Gigawatt Global has a rich pipeline of solar electricity projects, mostly in Africa. We delivered the first utility-scale solar electricity interconnection under the White House Power Africa program (in Rwanda), and were honored by the US State Department as a finalist for the Secretary of State’s ACE awards in Corporate Excellence/Sustainability. We opened our first field in the US, in Georgia, in June of 2016.

Gigawatt Global is proud to have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in March 2015 following the successful implementation of our Rwandan solar field on the land of a youth village in Rwanda housing orphans from the genocide. More...

Our Projects

Rwanda

Our 8.5 MW field in the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village increased Rwanda’s electricity generation by 6%.

Georgia, USA

Our 22.5 MW solar field in Glynn County, Georgia has been operational since 2016.

Nigeria

135 MW of installed solar capacity scheduled to start construction in 2017.

Burundi

Our 7.5 MW field in Burundi is slated to begin construction in June, 2017.

West Bank

We have received our first licence for a grid-connected solar project in the PA controlled West Bank. This 6 MW solar PV project is located in Ramadeen south of Hebron. More projects are awaiting approval.

Kenya

We have started the development of several grid-scale solar PV plants in Kenya. They are located in Narok, Laikipia and Kwale county and could provide the electricity needs of 45,000 Kenyan households.

South Sudan

South Sudan’s first solar PV project, Gigawatt Global has secured land for a 10 MW field.

Mini-Grids, Burundi

Roughly 88% of Burundians live in rural areas and a mere 1% of them have access to electricity. Our first mini-grid initiative in the Mubuga Village will serve as a pilot-program to be rolled out to communities that need it most.

Benin

Together with a host of international partners we expect our 10 MW project to greatly enhance Benin’s development prospects

Our Partners

It takes a global village to raise a solar revolution
